Real... or Not?

by Sashua

Elizabeth hurried across the dark parking lot toward the back door of the department store where she worked. Her car was the only one in the lot, which sometimes made her a little nervous. But tonight, all she could think about was the new mannequin in the third store window.

Harleton’s Department store had hired Elizabeth two weeks ago to dress the mannequins in their eight windows. She started every night at 11pm and usually finished by 6am. Each night she was given a different theme. Tonight her theme was 'A night on the town'. Each window had to be accessorized and the mannequins all had to be dressed according to the given theme. She had the run of the store and loved making each window its own special world.

Long brown hair blowing in the cool night air, Elizabeth’s dark eyes sparkled as she turned the key. She turned on the light as the heavy door clicked shut behind her. Down the hall, then across the store she went, eager to see the new mannequin. She had just caught a glimpse of him as they had moved him into place last night.

He was one of the new posable models that Harleton’s had ordered. His skin was soft and pliable over a steel skeletal frame. He had hair on his arms and legs, and sprinkled across his chest. There was even a light stubble on his handsome face. Elizabeth’s eyes had followed his long legs up to his thighs. Blushing, she remembered wondering what would happen if she dared to touch him. Would he get an erection? He looked so real. His blue eyes seemed to follow her as she left the window, daring her to try; daring her to reach out and touch him. Each of the new mannequins was given a name. The name on his tag was Harrison.

Opening the door to window number three, Elizabeth turned on the light and slipped inside. Harrison stood facing the window, arms at his side, his head slightly turned towards her. The curtain was pulled across the window and no one had dressed him yet. Elizabeth felt warm and her heart raced as she approached. She reached out, running her hand lightly across his naked back down over his tush. The skin under her hand seemed to warm. Startled, she took a step back.

She walked around in front of him and looked up into his face. His blue eyes stared back blankly. Reaching out, Elizabeth touched his chest, watching for a reaction on his face. Nothing happened. All she felt was cool plastic skin and the light colored hair on his chest. She shook her head. I must’ve been dreaming, she thought. It’s just that he looks so real. Glancing at her watch, she realized that 30 minutes had passed. I’ve got to get busy if I’m to finish all the windows, she thought as she headed for the door. As she left, Elizabeth turned back. “I’ll be back, Harrison,” she whispered.

It was a long night for Elizabeth as she went back and forth between the windows and the store, looking for the proper clothes for the mannequins and display merchandise to dress the windows in. She loved her job, but it was tiring. There was so much to do every night. As she dressed the three women in the fourth window, her mind slipped back to Harrison. She knew he wasn’t real, but there was something about him. Tonight, Elizabeth had saved his window to do last, rushing to give her extra time with him. She was fascinated by how real he looked and was looking forward to dressing him.

Finally the three women were done. They looked wonderful in their long gowns and jewelry. Satisfied with her work, Elizabeth smiled as she turned off the light and headed down the hall to the third window – and Harrison.

Harrison stood just as she had left him. Dropping the armload of clothes that she had picked out for him, Elizabeth stood in front of him, looking into his eyes. Her hand moved slowly to his chest. It felt cool as she ran her hand lightly across to touch his nipples then slowly down over his belly. Her hand moved down until she very softly touched his penis. Her face warm, Elizabeth turned away. What am I doing, she wondered. He’s just a mannequin.

She took her time, putting each piece of clothing on very slowly and carefully. While she worked, Elizabeth began talking to him. It was so quiet in the store. And it was easy talking to him. She talked quietly as she buttoned up his shirt, telling him that she had just moved into town a few weeks ago and how lonely she was. She hadn’t had time to meet anyone.

“I’m not good at meeting people, Harrison” she told him softly. “I always manage to say the wrong thing, if I manage to say anything at all. I get all tongue-tied. It’s so embarrassing.”

Elizabeth had maneuvered him so she could put his pants on. The zipper slid up easily. She took a step back to see how he looked. Harrison stood with one leg a little in front of the other, like he was taking a step toward her. One arm reached out in front of him, his hand outstretched. He looked so handsome in the dark suit that she had chosen for him. Putting her hand in his, Elizabeth smiled.

“I wish you were real,” she told him.

Finally the rest of the window was finished. She took a last look around to make sure everything was in place then she stood in front of Harrison. His arms were easy to pose, much easier than the older mannequins. Elizabeth took a step closer to him, moving his arm so that it curled around her. She put her arms around him, her body close against his. Her heart beat faster as she reached up and softly kissed his lips. They seemed to cling to hers, kissing her back. Leaning her head against his chest, Elizabeth sighed. “I really do wish you were real,” she whispered.

Elizabeth pulled away and headed for the door. Tired, she turned off the lights as she left, locking the door behind her. The next few weeks passed quickly. She always saved Harrison’s window until last, spending more and more time with him. As she dressed the window, she talked to him, telling him about her new apartment, things that she thought about – anything that came to mind. But her favorite time was before she dressed him.

Harrison stood in front of her naked. She loved touching him and each night, Elizabeth became more bold. She stood close to his naked chest, her arms around him, his arms posed to hold her close. Her tongue flicked out, licking at his nipples. Last night she had discovered Harrison’s secret. She had put her hand on his penis, lightly running her hand up and down. It looked and felt so real. As she stroked him faster, she felt a slight vibration and looking down in amazement, she saw his penis getting bigger, and harder. It was late, so she had to quickly dress him and leave. That night, Elizabeth dreamed that he was real, that he stepped down from his stand and pulled her into his arms, kissing her.

The next night, Elizabeth hurried through the other windows so that she would have plenty of time with Harrison. She opened the door to window number three and walked slowly around him. Her heart beat faster as she slowly unbuttoned his shirt. It dropped to the floor as she kissed him, running her hands over his chest. Her eyes on his face, she pulled the zipper on his pants down, her hand reaching in to hold him. His pants fell around his ankles. Elizabeth lifted each foot and pulled the pants away. She stroked him until he was hard. Looking up at his beautiful body, she smiled.

“I almost hate to put any clothes on you,” she said. “But I think you’ll like tonight’s theme. Tonight you will be dressed for golfing. You’d like that, wouldn’t you, Harrison?”

Elizabeth rolled out green Astroturf to cover the floor & rolled down the backdrop of a golf course. She dressed him in black pants and a black and white short-sleeved golf shirt. After tugging on his socks and tying his golf shoes, Elizabeth sat back and looked him over. She frowned. Something’s missing, she thought.

A box of assorted props and accessories sat in the corner. Elizabeth rummaged through it, not sure what she was looking for. At the bottom of the box she found a cap. It’s perfect, she thought. The cap was a black and red plaid with a flat top snapped to the brim. Standing on a stool, she put the cap on Harrison’s head, tugging it on snugly. As she moved to get down from the stool, Harrison turned his head toward her and blinked. Elizabeth screamed. She lost her balance. Arms stiff and creaking, a frown now on his face, the mannequin reached out to stop her fall. He caught her before she hit the floor and pulled her back up onto the stool.

Her face pale and heart racing, Elizabeth looked at him in disbelief. “Did you just move,” she asked. “You couldn’t have…you’re a mannequin!” She stepped down from the stool and backed up a little, watching him carefully.

Harrison looked around, confusion in his blue eyes. He moved his arms, stretching them over his head. Then stepping carefully down from his stand, he looked at Elizabeth. “Where am I,” he asked. “And who are you?”

“I’m Elizabeth,” she told him. “And your name is Harrison. You don’t know what you’re doing here?” Eyes wide, Elizabeth tried to explain to him that he wasn’t real, that he was a mannequin in a store window. Harrison walked up to her and put his hand gently on her cheek. “Does that feel like a mannequin?” he asked. Running a finger lightly over her lips, he looked into her eyes. “Doesn’t that feel real to you?” Heart pounding, she nodded. Suddenly, his stomach grumbled. They looked at each other and laughed. “That sounds real to me,” she told him, smiling.

Looking at her watch, Elizabeth saw that it was time for her to go. She thought for a minute, then looked up at him. “I’m not sure what’s happening here, but you look and sound real to me, and you’re definitely hungry. If you’d like, you can come home with me and I’ll fix you something to eat.”

Harrison looked around the window, then back at Elizabeth. His stomach growled again.  “I am really hungry. If you’re sure you don’t mind…I’d like that.” His smile made her blush. Face warm, she suddenly remembered how she had touched him, how she had posed his arms to hold her. She got her purse and coat and looked back at him.  “We’ll have to hurry. You have to be back in the window by the time the store opens.”

Harrison followed her out, his hand on her shoulder. “You’ll have to explain to me what I’m doing in the window,” he told her. “I don’t understand.” Elizabeth looked up at him and smiled. “Maybe you’re a wish that came true, Harrison.”

They were quiet on the ride to Elizabeth’s apartment. She glanced over at him several times. His face showed his amazement at everything he saw. Must be a strange thing, she thought, to go from a mannequin in a window right out into the real world. Harrison followed her from the parking lot into her building and into the first door on the second floor. While Elizabeth turned on the lights, he wandered around, looking at everything. It was just before dawn. She usually fixed herself a snack, then showered and went right to bed. But not tonight, she thought. Tonight will be different.

As she picked up a stack of mail, she turned and watched Harrison. He touched the buttons on her television, accidentally turning it on. She smiled as he jumped back in alarm. “It’s okay,” she told him. “You’ve got a lot to learn. That’s called a television.” Elizabeth headed for her tiny kitchen. “Come on, Harrison, I’ll fix you an omelet and toast. Do you want coffee?”

Elizabeth dropped a few of the letters in her hand. She stopped and knelt down to pick them up. Harrison, close behind her, leaned over to help her. As he straightened up, Elizabeth got to her feet. He was so close to her that she bumped his chin as she got up. His cap fell to the floor. Elizabeth took the letters from his hand and started for the kitchen. “Harrison? Do you want coffee?” When he didn’t answer, she looked back.

Harrison stood completely still, frozen in the position he was in when his cap had fallen off. He was bent forward a little at the waist, head looking up. The hand that had picked up the letters still reached forward. His eyes stared blankly.

“Harrison?” Elizabeth took a step toward him. “Are you okay?” When he didn’t move, she walked over and touched his hand. It felt cool. She waved her hand in front of his face. “Harrison? Wake up! What’s wrong with you?” He didn’t move. Standing back, she thought for a minute. What happened, she wondered. She moved closer, straightening him up, moving his arm to his side. “Now, how am I going to move you into the livingroom,” she muttered. “You’re too heavy for me to carry and how will I get you back to the store?” Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the golf cap. Standing on her toes, she reached up and placed it carefully back on his head. Immediately, Harrison blinked. Caught by surprise, Elizabeth stumbled back. “Harrison?”

He took a step toward her. “What happened? I thought you were fixing me something to eat.”

“I was,” she told him. “I am.” She headed for the kitchen, then stopped and slowly turned back. “Harrison? Let me see your cap.”

“My cap?” he asked. His hand reached up for the cap. “No!” she called out, rushing forward. “Let me do that.” Harrison leaned forward while Elizabeth pulled his cap off. Again, he froze. “I thought so,” she whispered. ‘It’s the cap!” She straightened him up again, then put the cap back on his head.

“Elizabeth?” Harrison blinked, confused. She smiled. “It’s okay,” she told him. “I was just fixing your cap.”

He followed her into the kitchen and watched while she cooked. As they ate, Elizabeth thought about what she had discovered.  I can make him real whenever I want, she thought. I can turn him into a mannequin and pose him, or I can put his cap on and he’ll be real. She smiled.

They finished their meal and went into the livingroom. “Sit down, Harrison,” Elizabeth said, motioning him toward the couch. He sat, watching in amazement at the pictures moving across the television screen. Elizabeth stood behind him, reached down and took off his cap. Harrison froze. She walked around and stood in front of him. “I always wanted my very own mannequin,” she whispered, smiling. Elizabeth sat down close beside him. She moved his arm so that it curled around her while she snuggled close, her head on his shoulder. She sighed.

After a few minutes, she stood up and moved in front of him. A tiny smile on her face, she slowly lifted her shirt over her head. Watching his face for any reaction, she reached around unhooking her bra. Her nipples tightened in the cool air. “I always wanted to do this, wondered what it would be like having sex with you,’ she told him as she slid off her jeans, tossing them aside. Naked, she leaned toward Harrison. Her breasts close to his face, she pulled his shirt over his head, then knelt down and tugged his pants off.

Her hands reached for his penis, stroking it until it became hard. Her face flushed, a tiny smile on her face, Elizabeth climbed onto Harrison’s lap. Straddling him, she rubbed herself against his hard penis. Her breasts against his chest, she slowly lowered herself onto him until his penis was buried deep inside her. Moving his arms around her, Elizabeth kissed his chest, licking at his nipples. She moaned softly as she rocked back and forth; slowly at first, then faster until she couldn’t breathe. Reaching up to kiss Harrison’s cool lips, she rocked faster. With a low cry, Elizabeth exploded. Heart pounding she slumped against him, her head on his chest.

A loud noise from the television startled Elizabeth. She lifted her head and looked around. Where am I? Suddenly she realized she was naked…and had been sleeping, curled up with a mannequin; curled up with Harrison. “What time is it?” she muttered.

“I’ve got to get you back to the store.” Throwing a light blanket around her shoulders, she hurried to the kitchen to check on the time. With a sigh of relief, Elizabeth realized that she had only been asleep for a little over an hour. “I thought I’d overslept. There’s still enough time to get Harrison back to his window before the store opens.”

She stood in the kitchen doorway watching him. “I can’t believe this,” she whispered. “My very own mannequin and I’m the only one who knows his secret.” Elizabeth pulled Harrison to his feet. She moved his arms, hands on his hips, his head tilted to one side. Stepping back, she looked at him, her eyes moving slowly up his long legs to his still hard penis. She walked around him, looking for a button or switch; something that would explain how he became real. I just don’t understand it, she thought. It’s amazing!

Picking up his cap, she stood in front of him, nuzzling her face against his hairy chest. “What will you think now?” she whispered, looking up into his face. Reaching up, she pulled the cap down on his head.

Harrison shook his head slightly. He looked down at the still naked Elizabeth, his eyes wide. She smiled up at him. His arms pulled her close against him as he leaned down to kiss her softly. Elizabeth snuggled closer, then pulled away.

“We’ve got to get you dressed and back to your window,” she told him. “Come on, you can’t be late. If they find out that I took their most expensive mannequin home, they’ll fire me.”

They both got dressed. Elizabeth was careful to keep the cap on Harrison’s head. In the car on the way back to the store, she tried to explain to him what he was doing in the window and what her job was. He listened as he stared out the window, not really understanding. Harrison followed her into the dark store back to his window. He stepped onto his stand and posed the way she told him to.

Elizabeth stepped back and looked him over, making sure everything was the way it should be. He looked perfect, she thought…except for the cap. He can’t be wearing that cap. The manager will come in to inspect his new mannequin and Harrison might step down and talk to him. “I’m just going to change your hat, Harrison. This one just doesn’t look right with this outfit.” She brought over a white visor and made the switch. The cap she put in her carryall bag. I can’t take a chance of anyone else discovering the secret, she thought.

She sighed as she watched his face became stiff, his eyes staring blankly straight ahead. “I’ll be back tonight,” she told him, with a last look as she closed the door behind her.

Elizabeth went home and went through her usual routine…going through the mail, cleaning up the kitchen, putting laundry in to wash and fixing herself some lunch. Her mind kept slipping back to Harrison. She felt hot as she remembered the amazing sex she had had with him earlier.

Impatient, Elizabeth went in to work a little early. She hurried down the hall to window number three. Smiling, she closed the door behind her. “Harrison?” she said softly. Elizabeth pulled the curtain open and stopped. Her golf window display was all in place, just as she left it. But Harrison was gone.

She stepped past the curtain into the window. Maybe someone came in and moved him, she thought. Peering into the corners, Elizabeth searched for Harrison. He was not there. Could someone have come in and stolen him? He was a very expensive mannequin and it took almost a year to get one once it was ordered. Voices came from the hallway leading to Harrison’s window. Elizabeth cringed inside. One of the voices was the manager of the store…her boss. She was responsible for all the mannequins. Mr. Nicolas was sure to fire her.

The small group of people clustering around the manager finally entered the room. Elizabeth. She took a step back, trying to think of an excuse. What would she say to him about the missing mannequin? Mr. Nicolas looked around the window, admiring the golf display.

He smiled at Elizabeth. “You did a wonderful job,” he told her. “I golf as often as I can, you know. It’s one of my favorite sports.” She nodded, smiling nervously. He talked with a few of the men in the group, discussing the window display. They finally turned to leave. Mr. Nicolas headed out the door, then turned back quickly. “By the way, do you know what happened to the mannequin in this window?”

Elizabeth looked down, trying to think of an explanation. “Uh, I’m not sure, sir.”  He smiled at her. “Oh, it’s nothing to worry about. I was just curious. I had my assistant take him into the supply room to clean him up.” Relieved, Elizabeth looked at him questioningly. “He had some dirt smudges on his hands and crumbs on his face,” he continued. “You don’t know how that would’ve happened, do you?” She shook her head. “No, sir. I can’t imagine how that would’ve happened.” Smiling inside, she remembered their breakfast together and the amazing sex before that.

“We’ll be back in a few minutes to see him,” he told her. Elizabeth nodded, then hurried to the supply room and Harrison. The room was empty, the mannequin leaning against the counter. She quickly looked around, then reached into her carryall bag and pulled out his cap. Standing on tiptoe, she leaned into him and pulled the cap onto his head.

Harrison shook his head as if waking from a deep sleep, then reached for Elizabeth as she lost her balance, falling into him. He held her tightly, then tipped her head up and leaning down, kissed her softly. Taking her hand, he put it on his now hard penis. She groaned. “Harrison, I have to get you back in the window,” she told him. “We don’t have time for this right now.” His hands lightly traced her breasts, his fingers playing with her nipples. He smiled, “Oh, I think we have a few minutes, don’t you?” Her heart racing and face flush, she nodded, her hand already sliding up under his shirt. Elizabeth quickly stripped off her clothes, leaving them in a pile on the floor, then helped Harrison out of his. He leaned her against the counter, his body against hers. He kissed her, his tongue sliding into her mouth. Elizabeth groaned.

Footsteps sounded in the hallway. “Elizabeth? Mr. Nicolas is looking for you,” a voice called. “He wants to show off his new mannequin.” Her hand on Harrison’s  penis, Elizabeth froze.

She quickly threw on a long khaki coat that she found hanging on the back of the door. Her pile of clothes were kicked into a corner. When the door opened, Elizabeth turned, her hands reaching up, pulling Harrison’s shirt over his head. She smiled at the young man standing in the doorway. “I’ll bring him right away,” she said. “I thought he needed a wardrobe change.”

The man looked at her curiously, then nodded. “Do you need any help getting the mannequin back to the window?”

“Oh, no. I can manage. I’m used to moving the mannequins.” Elizabeth finished tucking in Harrison’s shirt. Tell Mr. Nicolas that I’ll be right there.”

As he turned, the man noticed Harrison’s cap on the table. He picked it up, turning it around in his hand. “This will be perfect,” he said, moving toward Harrison. “No!” Elizabeth called out. She had carelessly left the cap that made Harrison real on the table. “I found a much better one,” she said, pulling it firmly out of his hand. “This one doesn’t fit him right.”

The man disappeared into the hallway. “Hurry up, Elizabeth. Mr. Nicolas doesn’t like to be kept waiting,” he called back to her.

Elizabeth sighed in relief. That was close, she thought. I’ll have to be more careful.

Mr. Nicolas was very pleased with his mannequin. Everyone in the group walked around him, studying Harrison’s realistic features. Elizabeth tucked his cap into her bag, then turned to leave. Mr. Nicolas stopped her on her way out the door. "Great job,” he told her. His eyes twinkled. “I have a surprise for you,” he said.

Elizabeth looked back at him. “You do?” she asked.

“Oh yes, you’ll love it.” He told her. “Tomorrow another mannequin will be arriving to place in the window with this one….a female mannequin just as realistic as this one.”

Elizabeth wasn’t sure what to think about the new mannequin to be posed in the window with Harrison. She wasn’t at all sure that she liked the idea of a realistic female model with him. She woke several times that night, wondering and worrying about the new mannequin.

Smothering a yawn, Elizabeth opened the door to the third window, Harrison’s window. She pulled back the curtain and stopped. The new mannequin stood nude on her stand. Elizabeth’s heart sank. She was beautiful. “I wonder what Harrison will think of her,” she whispered.

She looked at the tag on the mannequin’s wrist. Her name is Kim, the tag said. Kim was tall and slender, her skin evenly tanned. The nipples on her full breasts were hard. Her face was flawless…beautiful. Green eyes stared blankly ahead, her lips lifted slightly at the corners in a seductive smile.

Elizabeth glanced at her watch then quickly got to work. Today’s theme was ‘night time fantasy’. Kim was soon dressed in a sheer sexy nightgown and Harrison wore a burgandy silk robe. She placed Kim on the bed in the window, posing her against the mound of silk covered pillows. Elizabeth hesitated, then put Harrison’s cap on his head.

He blinked then stepped down from his stand and stretched. He looked around. When his eyes found the new mannequin on the bed, he froze. Eyes wide, lips smiling he moved toward her. Reaching out, he put a hand gently on her cheek, then slid his hand over her breast, his fingers teasing at her nipples.

Elizabeth cleared her throat. “Harrison?” Startled he looked back at her. He smiled. “She’s beautiful, isn’t she?” he asked. Elizabeth nodded. “Can she be real, too?”

“I’m not sure,” she told him. Elizabeth picked up her purse and headed for the door. “Are you coming with me,” she asked him. Harrison took another long, last look at Kim then followed Elizabeth.

They were both quiet in the car and their lovemaking seemed that night seemed forced. Several times, Elizabeth caught Harrison staring off into space.

Back at the store, she posed Harrison on the bed with Kim. She had originally planned for him to be standing, but Harrison had asked if he could be posed on the bed. The new mannequin lay next to him, her head on his shoulder, her hand on his chest.

Elizabeth sighed. They looked perfect together, she thought. Harrison won’t want to be with me anymore….not when he can be with someone so beautiful. She turned off the light and headed for home.

Every night, Harrison went home with Elizabeth. But every night their lovemaking seemed more and more forced and he became more and more distracted and withdrawn. She knew he was thinking about Kim.

Several weeks passed. Elizabeth wondered what she could do to win him back. She thought about moving Kim into another window, but Mr. Nicolas had said he wanted her in this one. Then she had an idea. On the way to work, it came to her. Maybe, she thought, just maybe it will work.

Elizabeth hurried into the store. She moved Kim into the next window, then stood in front of Harrison. “I’m going to pose with you today,” she told him. She dressed herself in a sexy red dress. Harrison had a black tuxedo on, looking very handsome.

She took a deep breath. Heart pounding, Elizabeth stepped onto the stand next to Harrison. “I hope this works,” she mumbled. As she stood on the stand, she reached out, taking his hand in hers. Elizabeth felt a jolt, then a coldness crept up her spine. Keeping her eyes on Harrison, she felt her legs begin to stiffen. Soon her whole body was frozen. She couldn’t move.

Elizabeth felt a tug on her hand. Harrison stood in front of her, helping her down from the stand. What’s going on? He wasn’t wearing his cap. How can Harrison be moving?

Harrison smiled at her. He put his arms around her and leaning down, kissed her softly.

Elizabeth turned slowly, his arms still holding her. She and Harrison stood, stiff as statues, hand in hand posing on their stands. How can that be, she wondered. I’m right here. She turned back to him. “Harrison?”

He smiled, kissing her again. “Didn’t you ever wonder what happened to me while I was frozen, posing on my stand?” She nodded. “Well now you’ll find out…welcome to my world, Elizabeth,” he whispered.
